Our Design Awards Jury
Hannah Vaughn, AIA, NCARB, Salt Lake City, UT
Hannah Vaughn is an architect and educator based in Salt Lake City, Utah. In collaboration with Scott Yribar, she is co-founder of VY Architecture, with offices in Utah and Idaho. Hannah’s practice is centered around the convergence of art as material/memory and architecture as craft/history. This connection of material and place are expanded with VY Architecture’s mission to generate architecture that is both pragmatic and poetic: high-performance, sustainable buildings that are responsible to the community and the future; buildings that silently frame meaningful human experience and have a positive impact from beginning to end. Hannah teaches design studio as adjunct faculty at the University of Utah School of Architecture and regularly serves on design juries. She has served on the Board of Directors for the Utah AIA, and currently sits on the Board of Trustees for the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art (UMOCA). Her work ranges from installations and pavilions to larger institutional projects. |
Cornell Anderson, AIA, Portland, OR
Cornell Anderson is a registered architect and founding partner of Fieldwork, a Portland-based architecture, interiors, and furniture workshop. He heads a team of talented designers and crafts-people that work in a collaborative studio culture focused on well detailed, concept driven design. His studio remains hands-on throughout the design process, overseeing and building meaningful architectural components and custom furniture for all projects, allowing designs to be continually refined and edited throughout the execution of the work. His work has been honored with national, regional, and local AIA design awards and published widely in varied publications. Cornell received his Master of Architecture from the University of California, Berkeley and his Bachelor of Architecture from North Carolina State University. He has taught advanced architecture studios at the Boston Architectural College and has been an active member of the American Institute of Architects, Portland Chapter, serving as the curator of the 2015-2020 AIA Homes Tours, juror for the National AIA Institute Honor Awards for Interior Architecture, and juror for the AIA Philadelphia Design Awards |
John Kane FAIA LEED AP BD+C, Phoenix, AZ

He is integral in maintaining Architekton’s culture of creating projects that are appropriate to the urban Sonoran Desert, consistently adhering to a rigorous architectural vocabulary that acknowledges issues of place involving climate, the physical and cultural landscape. In the past 30 years, he has led collaborative teams that specialize in the planning and design of institutional interdisciplinary learning communities. John is a leader in the creation of sustainable, community-based projects including higher education, community centers and civic architecture.
