Field Testing Requirements and Expectations

Feb 10, 17 & 24 noon - 1pm
Downtown Spokane Library Rm 1A
906 W Main Ave.
Spokane 99201

AIA and CSI are teaming up to offer a Spec Writing Brown Bags series covering Field Testing Requirements and Expectations.

Confusion surrounds the issue of field inspections; What’s required? Who is paying for this? What if we don’t pass? What is Chapter 17 and how does it affect my project? This three part series of presentations will focus on those questions and more.

Feb 10 - Division 01: What does it say about testing?
The first session of this series will speak to the specifications; tying Division 01 to the rest of the spec. When we specify testing of sealants or require a mock up, we refer back to Division 01, but what does it say? What should it say?? This session will give participants the basic understanding of where and how to specify testing and inspections.

Feb 17 -  The “Etc” of Air Barriers
The air barrier alone does not pass testing requirements. What about the windows, doors, flashings and those things that have to be connected to create an air barrier that passes the testing? It is one thing to call for products and components that in their own right meet air infiltration standards, it is another thing to have someone assemble those components in a way that actually passes air barrier testing. This session will focus on getting the parts and pieces together so that Division 01 testing can be successful. Presented by David Bates, OAC Services Inc. Forensic Architecture & Engineering

Feb 24 - IBC Chapter 17 Structural Tests and Special Inspections
When are special inspections required? Who does the inspections? Which ones are special? And do they apply to Spokane? This session will be a discussion of the uniform application of Chapter 17 of the IBC specific to the Spokane area. Presented by James Murphy, STRATA, Geotech and Construction Materials Testing.
