A Modern Master Puts Spokane on the Map
With a single project, two young architects ushered in a new era in Spokane in 1958 – and cemented the city’s reputation as a leader in Pacific Northwest modernism.
In conjunction with AIA Spokane, CK Anderson will present “Inside & Outside the Box: The Uncompromising Vision of Kenneth W. Brooks, FAIA” Tuesday, June 14, at 5:30 pm. in the Avista Auditorium. Architectural historian Glenn Davis will conduct a tour of some of the historical aspects of Avista’s corporate headquarters building, designed by Brooks along with Bruce Walker, FAIA, following CK Anderson’s presentation.
A big Thank You to AIA Spokane members Don Trail, Joe Hensley, Cody Dompier and Vance Ruppurt for organizing this event and to CK Anderson for creating the presentation and the related graphics. View and Print the Event Flyer.

The former Washington Water Power Central Service Facility is now home to Avista Utilities, and is an example of the Curtain Wall style. The structure was selected by the Spokane Chapter of the AIA for outstanding architecture, and won a National AIA award in 1959.
