Acoustic Solutions and Firewall Design Innovations

This course will provide technical training on innovative acoustics solutions for steel framed walls in apartments, condos, hotels, and offices. This course also provides technical training on firewall design for shaftwall and chase wall assemblies

Learning Objectives:
  • The acoustical solutions within the presentation offer a greater Sound Transmission Class (STC) rating than traditional metal framing material. Higher STC ratings correlate to less sound transmission, which contributes to the hearing health of the individuals that will inhabit the building.
  • The reduced material and labor that can result from utilizing some of these innovative products will make the project scope much safer. The less amount/lighter product makes the transporting and installing processes less of an opportunity for health hazards and injury.
  • The material saved/ labor reduced from this innovative solutions are a much more cost effective option. This contributes to the welfare of the project owner, which is often times taxpayer’s dollars, by saving a substantial amount of money. These acoustical and fire wall solutions can reduce the amount of material in the job making a more sustainable alternative.
  • Cold formed-Steel has a very long and interesting story of how we have come to the finish product we use today. Since the first use of cold formed products in the mid 1800’s, the industry gained ground in coordination with the gypsum wall board industry in the 1950’s. The industry was standardized in the late 1900’s and its history has morphed into what we know today.
