May 12, 5:30 - 7pm
304 W. Pacific Ave Spokane, WA 99201 It's Historic Preservation Month! Join AIA Spokane for a Meeting and Tour of the Washington Cracker Building and welcome Chere LeClair, AIA NW & Pacific Regional Director and professor at Montana State University to Spokane. Tour the recently renovated Washington Cracker Co. building, and observe how this 125 year-old structure has been adapted to be a progressive mixed-use building. Most of the building has been leased and renovated and the tour will include tours of most major tenant spaces. Our tour will cover: Restrictions and opportunities in adapting a building on the local and national Historic Registers, code compliance when converting a historic warehouse into a multi-tenant mixed use and seismic upgrades typically required in unreinforced masonry buildings in the local seismic zone. Austin Dickey from Copeland Architecture & Construction will lead our Tour. Allied members who were involved in the project include MSI, DCI, Pella Windows and Trindera. Constructed between 1891 and 1905, the three-story structure is on the Spokane Register of Historic Places. The building was used for decades to make breads, crackers, biscuits and cereals and in the early 1900's was a focus of Trade Wars, Trust-busting and Crackers. Meet at 5:30pm in the lobby/event space on the east half of the ground floor. 1 AIA|HSW To help us better organize the tour please Register -Return to Upcoming Events- |
