ZBA Architecture – Architect III
Posted: March 2026
ZBA Architecture is a close-knit team of 12 people in downtown Spokane who specialize in affordable multifamily housing and essential community facilities throughout Washington and Idaho. We're not a firm that brings you in for a project then moves you along when the workload shifts. We build careers here, just like we build lasting relationships with our clients.
We're looking for a licensed architect with 10+ years of experience who genuinely loves working with people—not just clients (though that's important!), but also the small team you'll be working alongside every single day.
What Makes This Different
You'll have actual relationships. Many of our clients are nonprofits, social service organizations, and faith-based groups doing incredible work—providing housing for formerly homeless families, veterans, and elders. They're not just names on a contract. You'll get to know them, understand their challenges, and help make their difficult work a little easier.
You'll see your impact. We're in the middle of BIG community-changing projects right now. Permanent supportive housing that changes lives. Fire stations that serve communities for generations. These aren't just portfolio pieces—they're projects our communities desperately need, and you'll be part of making them happen.
You'll have stability and purpose. This isn't about filling a spot until the next project comes along. We're looking for someone who wants to dig in and do meaningful work with a team that values longevity and deep expertise in what we do.
You'll be part of a family. Yes, we actually mean that. With 12 people, everyone matters. You'll work on projects from conception all the way through construction. You'll mentor others and be mentored. You'll have a voice in how we do things. We work closely as a team because we genuinely enjoy working together.
Qualifications
• Licensed Architect with 10+ years of experience
• Someone who values relationships as much as technical skills
• A team player who thrives in a collaborative, supportive environment
• Passion for work that truly serves our community
• Commitment to quality without losing sight of the mission
What We Offer
• Competitive compensation and benefits
• Hands-on project experience from start to finish
• Support for continuing education and professional development
• Work that matters alongside clients who value what we do
• A team that will have your back
How to Apply
Send your cover letter and resume to Sarah Brede at brede@zbaarchitecture.com. Tell us what draws you to this kind of work and why you're looking for something different.
ZBA Architecture – Architectural Staff I (Entry Level)
Posted: March 2026
ZBA Architecture is a 12-person Spokane firm specializing in affordable housing and essential community facilities throughout Washington and Idaho. We're looking for an enthusiastic entry-level team member who wants to actually learn, not just draft.
What Makes Starting Your Career Here Different
You'll learn the whole process. At a small firm like ours, you won't be stuck doing redlines for three years. You'll get hands-on experience with all aspects of architecture—from early client meetings through construction administration. You'll see how the work you do today impacts the project months down the road.
You'll have real mentors. With 12 people, you're not lost in a sea of hundreds. You'll work directly with experienced architects who remember what it was like starting out. We're invested in your professional development because when you grow, we all grow.
You'll work on projects that matter. From day one, you'll be contributing to housing for families who need it, fire stations that protect our communities, and spaces that serve vulnerable populations. This isn't just a job—it's work that makes a real difference.
You'll be part of the team, not just "the intern." Your ideas matter here. You'll be part of project discussions, client interactions, and team decisions. We value fresh perspectives and enthusiasm as much as experience.
Qualifications
• Professional degree in Architecture (or pursuing)
• Enthusiasm for learning and contributing to meaningful projects
• Strong work ethic and collaborative spirit
• Interest in affordable housing and community-serving work
• Proficiency with standard architectural software (or willingness to learn)
What We Offer
• Broad, hands-on experience across all project phases
• Direct mentorship from experienced architects
• Competitive compensation for entry level
• Support for licensure—we'll even pay you to take your exams!
• Continuing education opportunities
• A supportive environment where it's okay to ask questions
